Solar Hot Water Systems
Solar panels or collectors absorb sunlight creating energy to heat the water inside the panels, before being transferred into a storage tank until needed. Panels sit on the roof, preferably facing north for optimum heating.
When sunlight is not available solar hot water systems are boosted by electricity or gas.
There are 2 types of Solar Hot Water Systems:
- Roof Mounted - hot water tank and panels are mounted onto the roof.
- Split System - hot water tank is installed on the ground and panels are mounted onto the roof.
To maximise the energy return on a Solar Hot Water System, a number of factors have to be taken into consideration:
- Correct positioning of the solar panels on the roof.
- Amount of shade created from large trees or other structures.
- Type of system currently installed.
